Wilson Trition Statement and Solution

I know many of you have purchased the new Wilson Staff Trition Driver, and have seen some amazing results. As you may have heard yesterday, the USGA has ruled that the Trition in its current setup is non-conforming. Each of you that have purchased the club and got fitted by me, rest assured that you will not lose any performance. The non-conforming aspect is strictly a cosmetic one. Wilson will send everyone a new sole plate kit and ask to remove the 12g weight. The 12g weight only makes the 10.5 and 12 deg heads non-conforming with the 12g in the toe port and 6g weights in the other two ports with the titanium sole plate. I know that I did not fit anyone with this 12g-6g-6g configuration so you will be safe there. The sole plate exchange is a cosmetic change so those great results will continue with the new plates. Contact me if you have any concerns about the product or the procedure to get the new plates.

The driver on the left is with the new conforming plate and the one on the right is the non-conforming one.

As I get more details, I will forward them to everyone. Since I am not playing in any professional events in the next couple of weeks, mine is staying in the bag ;)!

Below is the Statement from Wilson Sporting Goods:

WILSON GOLF UPDATE ON THE WILSON STAFF TRITON DRIVER AND WILSON STAFF TRITON DVD DRIVER

12/12/16

More than eighteen months ago, Wilson Golf and Golf Channel set out to do something unprecedented in the golf industry. We wanted to create an innovative, crowd-sourced golf driver through an engaging television series designed to open the game of golf to a broader audience and bring new and exciting ideas and products to fairways everywhere.

We saw Driver vs. Driver as a compelling way to educate golfers on how drivers are designed, developed and manufactured, with particular emphasis on how to create products that conform with the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Royal & Ancient (R&A) regulations.

The winning design of Driver vs. Driver, the Wilson Staff Triton, is the most adjustable multi piece driver ever introduced. Professional and amateur player feedback on the Triton driver has been extraordinary.

While a traditional product submission process would afford Wilson Golf and the USGA the opportunity to review a product several months prior to its commercial launch, the timeline for testing, modifying, manufacturing and shipping a final, comprehensive Wilson Staff Triton driver was compressed. This shortened timeline was due to the nature and confidential format of the show. Since the time of our submission, we have worked closely with the USGA on its review of the Triton driver.

As an update, the USGA issued a conforming ruling on the 9° Wilson Staff Triton DVD on December 5. This driver is our Wilson Staff Triton Tour model. We are excited to see it played on Tour starting in January.

For the Triton driver models that are currently available at retail, the USGA expressed concern with two features. It is important to emphasize that changes to these two features do not affect the playability of the driver.

The first feature is an aesthetic one that involves reducing the rear edge of the driver’s sole plates by a few millimeters. The USGA has assured us this small modification to the sole plates will bring all three lofts into conformity with its “Plain in Shape” Rule. Further, this small reduction is consistent with the sole plates of the Wilson Staff 9° Triton DVD model.

The second feature is related to the optional 12-gram weight in the 10.5° and 12° Triton driver accessory kits. In testing the driver with the maximum total of 24-grams of weight, with the optional 12-gram weight in the toe of the club, the USGA observed a CT (Characteristic Time) that was slightly above their allowable limits and testing tolerance. It should be noted that this specific combination of the Titanium sole plate and this extreme weight configuration was not used in our evaluation of the Triton as it would have resulted in a heavy swing weight and a fade/slice bias.

While we are very disappointed in the USGA’s position on the Triton, doing what’s right for our players and their game comes first. As we are a global golf brand with a 100-year track record of only bringing conforming products to the market, we want to assure the Triton is not the exception, regardless of configuration.

Therefore, we will proactively remove the optional 12-gram weight from all Triton accessory kits. This action combined with the new modified sole plates will be submitted to the USGA for review this week. We are confident that these modifications will satisfy the USGA’s concerns, and that the driver, across lofts, will be placed on the December 19th conforming list.

Upon receiving a conforming ruling, we will expedite exchanging the current Triton sole plates for the new modified plates. The new conforming Triton sole plates will be identified by a “DVD” logo placed on the bottom of the club.

For players who have already purchased the Triton Driver, please visit http://www.wilson.com/en-us/triton and register to be notified as soon as the Triton sole plate exchange program begins.

Beginning January 1st, shipments of the Triton DVD Driver (featuring the new modified sole plates) will be available through Wilson Golf Authorized Dealers and on www.wilson.com.

We are excited that the Wilson Staff Triton will continue to be enjoyed by golfers at all levels of the game. Innovation, creativity, and technology are the lifeblood of any high performance sport, and even more so with golf. We want to encourage, and inject new thinking and new approaches when it comes to golf equipment, while being respectful and mindful of the standards that govern what we bring to the sport. Wilson Golf sees the Wilson Staff Triton DVD Driver as a great next step in our mission and in the modern game of golf.

New PING G Series and Price Drops

g_family

The all new PING G Series is now available for Custom Fitting/DEMO. We are booking Pre-Orders now. PING drops price of GMAX irons to $99.99 for steel and $112.50 for graphite, and Glide wedges are now $129.00 for steel and $149.00 for graphite.

Lets look at the G Irons first: Price $99.99 for steel $112.50 for graphite

Revolutionary COR-Eye Technology provides four times the amount of face flexing for consistently faster ball speeds across the hotter face. A gain in ball speed and shot height generates more carry distance and a steeper landing angle. A specialized heat treatment creates Hyper 17-4 stainless steel, allowing for thinner, faster faces to gain distance.

PING G Driver: Price $399.00

Inspired by an approach called biomimicry, PING engineers analyzed the dragonfly’s intricate wing pattern to design ultra-thin crown sections for extreme CG and maximized MOI. Dragonfly Technology, Vortec Technology, turbulators and a strong T9S face created our longest, most forgiving driver ever. Available in three models to fit your preferred trajectory.

PING G Fairway Woods: Price $269.00

With the G fairway woods, getting the ball in the air is easy with their lower lead edge, which gets the club under the ball so impact occurs higher on the face. Our thinnest crown ever in a PING fairway wood allows for a low-back CG to ensure high launch, low spin and extreme forgiveness.

PING G Hybrid: Price $229.00

Hybrid technology takes a leap forward, highlighted by the G hybrids’ innovative tiered internal sole, which helps activate face flexing to power the ball off the face faster for greater distance. The ultra-thin crown allows for a low-back center of gravity to ensure high launch, reduced spin and a higher MOI for maximizing forgiveness.

PING Crossover: Price $229.00

PING created a new category – the Crossover – to combine the precision, workability and control of an iron with the speed and forgiveness of a hybrid. It’s not a driving iron; the Crossover is far more forgiving, higher launching and more versatile. An innovative cascading internal sole engages the entire face, sole and top rail in flexing to maximize distance.
